$50 Winner and Coolest Gadget of the Week are…

Posted on the December 25th, 2009 under Gadgets by Administrator

The winner of last week’s coolest gadget competition is the Magic wand remote.

If you’re bored of the same old TV remote, why not ditch it for this magic wand remote. Use flicks of your wrist to change the channel and big sweeping moves to record your favourite TV show. The wand will learn up to 13 commands from your old remote and you can choose which moves control each command, making your remote un-hijackable! It will also work on your Sky box, stereo or any other infra-red device.

Congrats again to Decide What to Buy.

Walkie Talkie Watches
In second place we have the Walkie Talkie Watches.

The first thing we thought was “a in a watch? That’ll be poo! It will have no range, eat batteries, have no functions and be seriously fiddly/difficult to use”. So naturally we had to have a closer look. At first glance we were surprised by the size. They are oversized, compared to a watch, but not as much as you might think. The face of the “watch” only measures in at 7 x 6 x 2.5cm and when you consider that the aerial can be folded in and out when needed it is surprisingly small.

SteriShoe sterilizes and gets rid of shoe odors
Finally in third place comes the SteriShoe sterilizes and gets rid of shoe odors.

SteriShoe may be a product that some might think is taking things too far. However, if you’ve ever worn workboots or know someone that does, I doubt you question that it’d be a great idea for some people. Some of the reason being that you just wish you could get rid of the smell, the other part being that you really do wonder sometimes how much bacteria gets built up inside of a pair of shoes you never wash.

Treasure Seeker’s Shoes

Posted on the November 18th, 2009 under Gadgets by Administrator

treasure-seekers-shoesForget about the traditional methods when it comes to looking for hidden treasure with a metal detector in your backyard – the Treasure Seeker’s Shoes does so without having to burden your arm one bit. Why do we say that? Well, it is strapped to one side of your leg without making you look like some sort of nerd, alerting you to any potential treasure while you non-chalantly walk about.

These Treasure Seekers have the appearance of regular beach or summer wear, but have a nifty pack that straps to your leg and beeps every time your feet pass over a priceless Roman coin. There are three LEDs on the unit – green for normal (nothing detected), yellow for the slightest hint of something that might be worth digging for, and red for full-on ‘pass me that spade, I’m rich beyond my wildest dreams’ mode. Alternatively, if the squall of the beeping alarm is too much for you, you can always set it to vibrate instead. In truth, being discreet may well buy you precious seconds while you unearth your next treasure. When you’ve detected all you want to detect, you can simply unplug the detector pack and use them as normal sandals.

Made from black plastic, you can choose from small, medium and large sizes. The control box remains put on your calf courtesy of an elasticated band, while the box is no larger than a regular . Be prepared to get strange looks and questions from strangers as you walk around with this though. The Treasure Seeker’s Shoes retail for £39.99 per pair regardless of size.

The Cup Communicator lets you talk through cups

Posted on the November 11th, 2009 under Gadgets by Administrator

Cup_Communicator_2

Even if we never tested it, we’ve all thought about using the cup trick to communicate with a nearby friend when we were kids. To be able to secretly talk without your parent’s knowledge is every kids dream.  Well with as it is, it’s a touch easier for kids to do that.  If you’d still like to enjoy that same feeling you got as a kid when you used those cups, maybe you could give this cup trick a whirl in an updated way.

This concept is meant to bring you back to the good old days.  It uses digital to give that same old feel.  In order to activate it, you just tug on the cord and then to communicate you just squeeze the cup itself.  It’s extremely similar to a , just far more awesome.  Sadly this cup isn’t something you can pick up at your local electronics store.  It’s still trapped in the design phase of things.

Lego Walkie Talkies don’t require assembly

Posted on the September 9th, 2009 under Gadgets by Administrator

Lego Walkie Talkies

These aren’t some DIY project that you dream of accomplishing someday when you get a bunch of spare time.  No, instead, this is something you can purchase.  Of course it is a bit dissappointing that the walkie talkies aren’t actually made out of Legos.  However, even if it is just a Lego decorated decal, it’s still instantly better than the boring plain walkie talkies.

With these you can stalk around the office or at home with your best friend and remember the good old days.  When you didn’t have bills to pay and no one told you that you were acting entirely too immature for your age.  These walkie talkies have a clip on the back to attach to your belt loop while you’re out and about.  In order to keep them up and running you’ll just need 2 AAA batteries per .  You can purchase these in sets of two for $28 from Urban Outfitters.
